How Can God Forgive Me
I often minister to people who refuse to believe God could ever forgive them. If that’s you, know that you have been lied to. God is so in love with who you are. While He doesn’t love your sin, He loves you without any reservation. In order to be forgiven by God, we have to be truly repentant. In other words, we can’t glibly say under our breath, “God forgive me” and hope for the best. It doesn’t work that way.
There is no shortage of witnesses for God
God is a Creator, a King, a Judge and surely Rules over all the Earth. He is majestic and beautiful… Glorious. He has a deep love for His creation and has made it in His liking.
When we need to be forgiven, think of the process as one who goes to court to stand before a judge. Would you just show up without any appointment and stand before the judge without any regards to how the law works? That isn’t going to work very well. The moment we glibly say, “I’m sorry God” and move on, many times the forgiveness isn’t granted. God looks at the heart of the person making that statement. For this reason, many continue to hear the voice of guilt and shame speak to their heart.
I have written this post just for you so that you might understand the process of redemption and forgiveness from Gods perspective.
What is it that you have done that needs to be forgiven once and for all? Maybe you don’t even know what you’ve done wrong before God, but you still feel guilty. Think of your sin as you running a red light at an intersection. Maybe you didn’t even know you did it but there was a witness who saw it. If that witness testifies against you, whether you knew you did it or not will not matter. You will be found guilty. Know that God has plenty of witnesses. Nothing you have ever done was missed in the spiritual realm. Nothing…
Before I move forward, I want to make sure you understand there is a courtroom in Heaven even right now. You might also like to know that you have been sued in that courtroom many times in your life.
Every time you broke a commandment of Gods, you were sued
“But Pastor, you have no idea what I’ve done throughout my life!” I hear this comment all the time. Yet, here are a few examples of things people have confessed to me:
- Sexual relationships outside of marriage
- Homosexual relationships
- Sex with animals
- Sexual abuse against someone or by someone
- Drug abuse
- Fetishes
- Incest
- Lust and perversion
- Suicidal thoughts
- Hearing voices
- Abortion(s)
- Cutting
- Phobias
- Multiple personalities
- Constantly lying
- Addicted to theft or shoplifting
- Addicted to Pornography and Masturbation
- Rape
- Anger and rage over others
- Emotional abuse
- Hatred and unforgiveness towards others
This is but a short list of the things people have done leaving them to think God could never forgive them. If this is you, listen to me, there is nothing you can do on this earth where God could not forgive you. There are two exceptions to this rule. God will not forgive blaspheming His Spirit and there is another exception and I will cover that one at the end of this post.
All these issues in our lives are called sin by God
Most people have no idea what sin really is. You might be one of those people. The church teaches that sin is missing the mark with God. That it is. But what isn’t taught is what sin is. Missing the mark with God is the act of sinning. What you need to know is that sin is a living spirit and it has one desire for you… to lead you away from walking rightly with God. The goal for them is to make sure you don’t make it into Heaven when you die. Meanwhile, they want to use you like a puppet while you are alive.
Let me give you an example of how sin operates. When a person feels the urge to masturbate, they have either seen a quick vision reminding the person how good it feels, or they hear a voice reminding them of the same. That’s it! God calls this temptation. Shouldn’t we know that the temptation has to come to us through a living thing?
Know this with all you are… sin is a living spirit and it has a desire to lead you astray with God. It is not a behavior or a hereditary issue. It is a voice with intelligence behind it. Until people get this, running from sin is a very difficult proposition.
Sin is like a bad neighbor. It always shows up when you in a place of weakness
If I was a spirit of darkness and I came to you and tossed a vision into your mind of how good it feels to masturbate, you are likely going to do it. First we are enticed, and when we perform the sin, we have then broken a commandment of God and the sin will grow and multiply in us. This is why sin is so hard to get rid of. First you have the wrong understanding of what sin is, and worse, how to get rid of it.
Why does sin want us to sin? Because sin comes from the demonic realm. That kingdom is of darkness and is opposed to the Light of God and His Kingdom. Sin only cares that it can lead you to break the commands of God. Why? God doesn’t bless sinners. God doesn’t help sinners. God turns away from sin. That isn’t at all how you want to live your life with God. And sin knows it.
To think God can’t forgive you is denying what Jesus did on the Cross
The demonic realm is always looking for who it can lead into a place of walking against the Word of God. Let’s say you have had a sexual relationship with a married person. Know that the demonic realm led you into that situation. It brought the other person into your life, added the ingredient of enticement and if you decided to partake in the sin, you were immediately found guilty in Heaven. Just know the demonic realm is laughing all the way at you.
The kingdom of darkness loves to put hooks into the noses of its victims where it then leads them around like puppy dogs. Always doing their bidding. Yet, it is very difficult to get people to see their own sin. The darkness covers up their hearts and blinds them to the Truth.
Sin is a demonic spirit(s) which leads us to do something against God
What have you done that makes you feel as if God could never forgive you? Just as sin would cause you to do what you did, sin will also lie to you and say that God will not forgive you. If I was a demonic spirit, I would say the same thing. I don’t want to lose my home; you. For most people, once they buy that lie, they are hopeless. Just know God will forgive. This is why He sent His Son to the Earth to be crucified on a Cross. But we need to do our part to be forgiven.
There are a couple of areas I want to share with you about sin. First sin wants to make sure you keep your sin secret. Your sin will tell you, “Don’t tell anyone what you have done because they will hate you!” The reason a demonic spirit speaks to us in this manner is so they don’t lose their home in you. The moment you confess your sin to someone else, that sin is no longer hidden in you. It is now being exposed to the Light.
Sin cannot stand in the Light
Just as if you walk into a dark room and turn on the light, the darkness has to flee. Sin is the same thing. It is darkness that gets pushed around by the Light. When a person asks Jesus into their hearts to be saved, the Light of Heaven through Jesus enters us. We become a Light on a hill so to speak. The darkness will still try to cover up the Light by enticing us further, but if we learn how to tell it to go, we will stay bright Lights for God.
I want to share with you what the Bible teaches us about being enticed by sin.
James 1:13-16 (NKJV)
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.
15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.
First of all, God does not tempt us into sin. Sin does that all on it’s own. We are tempted when sin comes along and draws us away by the sin we already have in us. We are led away like a man with a hook in his nose. Really…
When the desire takes control and we partake in that sin, the original sin (the desire) conceives with the enticement. Literally. The desire (sin) will give birth to more sin. Pretty soon we have a whole host of sin operating in us with one goal; to take over your life. This is where addictions come from.
For the person who began smoking at a young age, what they don’t realize is they were enticed and drawn away by the sin already in them. In most cases the sin is rebellion. Everyone knows smoking will kill us, but the desire to rebel is stronger than the desire to live for many.
Why does God allow sin to do this in our lives? All because Adam and Eve were rebellious with God from the beginning. Eve should never have broken Gods command to not eat the fruit off of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But she did. And now we all get to be part of this mess. But know this, God has made a way for you and me. Jesus. We can walk in freedom from our sin but we have to get rid of it His way. We can’t just say, “God will You forgive me of doing this or that…” That isn’t how the Kingdom of God operates.
Sin becomes a legal issue in Heaven
The demonic realm knows something you don’t. There is a courtroom in Heaven right now and it is open day and night. When you sin, the spirit that led you astray will go into that courtroom and sue you for breaking a commandment of Gods. Because you haven’t bothered to show up and defend yourself, you will lose your case. That gives the little dark spirit the right to enter you and become a stronger force of sin in your life.
I’m guessing you feel this even now. but God has made a way for you.
Maybe you have had an abortion. Or murdered someone. Whatever it is, God is willing to forgive you for your transgression. Freedom is just around the corner for you.
Earlier I mentioned to areas of our lives which would cause us to never be forgiven by God. The first is speaking against Holy Spirit. I have never heard of a person doing this, but I am sure their are people who have. To do this, you would have to say that you hate Holy Spirit and all it represents. Seems like a foolish thing to do, doesn’t it? I am not going to teach you why here, but know that it is something you would never want to do. Ever.
The other way a person can lose the opportunity to be forgiven or saved would be the person who turns their back on God after partaking in the miracles of the Holy Spirit. This is like going to a football game and seeing a person run a hundred yards and then saying, “I never witnessed that!” When a person has seen a miracle and then renounces God, His Son Jesus and Holy Spirit, there will be no fix for that person. Ever.
Are you ready to get your life going again? Do you want to be set free of your sin? No matter what you have done, God is waiting. But you have do to it His way. Here are the steps I recommend you take:
- Go find an evangelical Pastor
- Confess your sin to him
- Have the Pastor cast the sin out of you
- Then have the Pastor plead the Blood of Jesus into you
Just know something here… If you can’t forgive others, God will not forgive you. If you can’t find mercy towards others, God will not have mercy towards you. If you continue to curse others with your speech, you can expect God to curse you right back. This is a life where we sow and reap. If you sow ugly weeds, you are going to live a life in the weed garden yourself.
When the Pastor is done praying for you, look for the sin. It should be gone. If it isn’t you have not really given your sin away to God. You have probably given Him lip service.
If you have done this with a right heart, you should not feel the guilt or shame any longer. The desire that has been in you should be gone. That sin will have been removed from your life and you will be squeaky clean.
I want to give you a warning. Just as a dog returns to its vomit. Do not go running back to your sin again. Know this, it will grow in size when it jumps back into your flesh. The next time it will be harder to get out of you. If you keep running back to your sin, there will come a time where the only way it is going to come out is with people fasting and praying for you.
Mental hospitals are full of people who refused to turn and run from their sin.
God loves you so much. Even though you need a little cleaning. If the sin in you is telling you how hard it is going to be to go to a pastor and confess your sin, tell it to shut up. It is lying to you. That is what Pastors do. It’s our job.
As for me, I will never change my mind about a sinner. I look to the real person inside, not what is brewing on the surface.
Love and blessing and know I care about your life. Now all you have to do is fulfill your part. Go get cleaned up!
Pastor Jeff Mauer
Maybe right now you are wondering if you are even saved. Maybe you have never opened up that heart of yours to let Jesus enter you. Oh… you have no idea what you are missing. Right now is a great time to drop to your knees and say to God, “I am a sinner! I need You God more than ever!”
Then take your hands and open the doors over your heart and ask Jesus to come into you. He will. When you feel that happen, and you will, close those doors and guard them the rest of your life. Go get into a church with a pastor who loves his flock. Get water baptized and do this thing called life right.
