Careful What You Say
Are you ready to have a blessed life? Would you like to feel like royalty wherever you go? In order for this to happen, you are going to have to change one little thing in your life. How you speak. If you do, the rewards will be huge. Let me begin by sharing a practical story of how God woke me up one day in a drive through.
Your lips change the course of your future
Five years ago my family left had left our church service and we were headed out of town. I decided we should grab some lunch so we pulled into a local fast food drive through to get something to eat on the way. I noticed there were about five cars ahead of us as I placed our order. I hoped it wouldn’t take too long to get through. But it did. A half hour later we pulled up to the window to pay and receive our food. I was ticked. Not only for delaying my family in getting where we had to go, but that the service had been so poor.
I respectively asked the cashier if she knew that we had been in line for a half hour and she stood there as if I was holding a gun to her. I thought I was calm and collective in how I asked her, but apparently that isn’t how she saw it. She handed me our food and I left there fuming. I hadn’t seen the anger or frustration in my own life and that it had poured out over the girl who was just doing her job.
Pulling out of the parking lot, all of us made comments such as, “This place is so slow!”, “Why don’t they get good help?”, “Why can’t they hire competent people?”
As we pulled the food out and ate it, I realized the food didn’t even taste good to me. So I commented on that too. I don’t remember for sure but I’m certain I made a mental vow to never go back there again, but we did.
I want to share a truth with you about what was really happening in all this. The truth is I had a lousy attitude towards the business and help but I had forgotten we don’t wrestle with people but the spiritual realm and how it manipulates us. And as a result, each time we went back to that fast food restaurant, we continued to speak about how slow it is, expecting poor service. That is exactly what we got. Either the food was cold or the order took forever to get placed. And each time we would continue to speak against the business and people there.
The girl was just doing her job
A few months ago we pulled back into the drive through and I made a mental note that we were the only customer in line. Yet it still took five minutes before they asked us for our order. I couldn’t believe it. I figured the employees were taking a smoke break or had all fallen asleep inside. What in the world was going on with this place? My wife and I looked at each other in amazement and I said, “What’s wrong with this place?”
What’s so ridiculous is I preach on this subject often. Over and over again I have warned my church body of speaking carefully over situations in their lives. What I had missed was I had been baited by Satan five years back and now was reaping my own error in how I reacted to the situation. I was caught in a snare of sin in my own life and worse, I had drug my family right into it with me. You see I had cursed the business that day five years back and now I was living out the curse. Each time we came, the service got worse and worse.
Numbers 23:8 (NKJV)
8 “How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? And how shall I denounce whom the LORD has not denounced?
I have taught on one scripture after another regarding the Kingdom of God and how it responds to our words. Yet I had fallen along with the best in this. A trial was set and I lost and now was paying a steep price for my sin. I want you to learn from this so you don’t have to go through the same struggle as I did. The kingdom of darkness had hooked me with a snare and it caused me and my family to fall into a ditch where only God could get us out. Up to this point, I still hadn’t seen my sin with my own eyes.
Genesis 12:3 (NKJV)
3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
About three months ago, we were back in line again after a church service. We placed our order in the drive through and as soon as I pulled forward one car distance, Holy Spirit whispered to me, “Are you going to curse them again?” Oooohhh. I immediately knew I had been wrong. All of my sin stood up in my heart and I saw it for what it was. I had cursed the business from that first time we had poor service. Worse, I continued to speak wrongly over it. Each time building up an account in Heaven against me and my family. I was guilty before God and knew it.
Sitting there realizing my error, I also realized we were getting exactly what we had asked for; poor service.
Five years earlier I had been tested by the spiritual realm and had failed miserably. Because I failed, we reaped the failure each time we went back there.
You should know that the kingdom of darkness has no problem causing people to do their bidding. The day we had to wait thirty minutes was a great example of this. I don’t know what went wrong inside of the restaurant, but I know the place was probably doing all it knew to do to give good service. But I didn’t look at it that way.
Remember this story as you go forward in your life. Sometimes situations in our lives pop up and know we are being graded in our response. The Bible’s full of stories of how God allowed the demonic realm to test people. We read that some of them came through the test with flying colors. Others, not so much.
We can begin to walk out a pattern of error in our lives after a failed test. Unless we see clearly where we went wrong in it, we will continue to live the error until we do.
Oh, I had missed it and I was so wrong in my attitude towards the business
Oh, it stung to hear Holy Spirit remind me of my sin. The test was so blatant. Nobody was in front of us and I was getting poor service. Goodness…
I said to my family, “I have led us astray in regards to this business. I was wrong to curse them five years ago and worse, I have perpetuated the original sin since. Please forgive me for being a poor example to you”. The family realized what I was talking about and knew they had also partaken in the sin themselves. Soon my whole family was saying, “Lord, forgive me for cursing this place too. I am guilty before You”. Immediately the atmosphere around us changed. When we got up to the window, the person behind the glass greeted us with a smile as if we were her best friend. We left with great service and great food.
Now when we show up, the line always seems to be short and the service quick. Go figure. What is even more astounding is the whole crew has changed over the last couple of months. The people that are working at the business are happy, quick to take care of our needs and are glad to see us. Doesn’t God have a wonderful sense of humor when we walk rightly with Him.
What changed? Instead of cursing the place every time we show up, we began to speak blessings over the business, the owners, the help and for their future. God loves it when we bless His people and He will always respond in like manner.
Matthew 5:5 (NKJV)
5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
I had been arrogant in my speech towards the business all along and I was receiving what I deserved; lousy service.
I want to teach you a little secret in this so that your life will become blessed too. One of the biggest mistakes I see as a pastor is when people tell me all the awful things going on in other peoples lives. I hear things such as, “So and so has a terrible anger problem!” or “So and so is a drug addict and I don’t see them ever coming out of it…” Those types of statements are called declarations. Good or bad they will find their mark. When we speak over others we are actually holding them in the place their stuck in. Yep. We often cause the very thing we see in others to perpetuate further.
For example; If you say to your child, “You are never going to amount to anything!” You can stop wondering why they haven’t.
If you say to your wife, “You are a nag and you need to start taking care of yourself. Do something with the way you take care of this house!” You can be sure, nothing will change. In fact, it will get worse. Let me show you why…
Job 22:28 (NKJV)
28 You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways.
Good or bad…
If you declare things from a Godly perspective, God will establish what you have declared. But if you declare something ungodly, the demonic realm will be happy to help you with that declaration instead. They will always establish the counterfeit of what you really should have stated. They are masters at ruining our lives.
Every one of us have said things we shouldn’t have spoken out of our mouths. I have heard people say, “Well, I can’t take back what I said!” Yes you can. All you need to do is go to the throne of God and confess the sin before the Lord. Just know the list may be long. You aren’t going to get away with “God forgive all the things I have ever said wrongly.” Each one is a legal judgement against you from the kingdom of darkness. This will take time for you to begin to see all the areas you have been wrong with God.
You can pray something like, “Father, I come before You in the Name of Jesus Your Son. I have sinned with my mouth towards my best friend. I should have never said she was this or that. Will you please forgive me for my wrongful statement and the thoughts I have had against her?” God will forgive you. But then you need to uproot the words and pull them out of her ground. Pray that. Then plead the Blood of Jesus over the stain. Then and only then will this situation be taken care of.
Here is a typical prayer of righteousness in speaking wrongly over others:
“Father, in the Name of Jesus I uproot every ungodly word I have spoken over so and so. I cover those words with the Blood of Jesus and declare them removed from their life. I plead the Blood of Jesus over them to heal them of my wrongful words. And now I speak blessings over so and so and ask You to deliver so and so into a great life. A life that is blessed”. Then you can look up and thank God for who He is, because He will surely do what you have asked for. As long as you have asked in His will, its done.
I often preach a simple truth and it is this; What is it you’re missing in your life? Whatever it is, give what you have away. In this case, if you are missing being treated like royalty, then treat others as if they are first.
Love and blessings to you
Pastor Jeff Mauer
Maybe you just read this and realize your life is not at all aligned with God. I want to share another secret with you. God is more than able to forgive you for all the sin in your life. But it will only happen if you ask His Son Jesus into it. You need to make the decision to trust and follow Him to be saved and covered by His household. If this is you, please… take your hands and open the doors over your heart. Go ahead. Open those doors and say the following;
“God, I have sinned before You my whole life. I see it. And now I ask You to forgive me for all the wrongs I have done. I need Your Son Jesus to take over my life. So I make an invitation right now to You Jesus. Step inside of me and take over my life.”
Go ahead. Say it.
If you have finally accepted Jesus for who He is, please let us know. We want to be praying for you. Get ready for your life to be made well. Be blessed…
